GIS IS POWER!

GIS software can compile data, maps, and as-built drawings into readily accessible graphics in map formats. Using this technology, information can be displayed, analysed and stored in formats that will lead to informed decisions, increased productivity, and effective planning. GIS mapping will also provide for sharing of data in a standardized, simplified format with other public agencies and organizations.

JAKS will work with each client to assess their unique needs and create effective and accurate mapping solutions. Our GIS staff can assist in the decision-making process beginning with a needs assessment and design, continuing through implementation.

JAKS has established corporate partnerships with technology leaders in the GIS industry for providing quality solutions to our customers. Our partnerships result in rapid delivery of fully integrated, best-of-breed solutions for our customers.

GIS Needs Assessment:

The initial steps for implementing an enterprise GIS are to establish the business case and develop an implementation plan. JAKS as well its affiliates has completed enterprise GIS implementation plans for a number of clients and has the necessary experience to perform a needs assessment and analysis to help determine your specific needs.

The needs assessment process involves interviewing key personnel within your agency to identify important workflow activities, existing data (paper and electronic), future data needs and hardware/software requirements.

Once the needs assessment is completed, the next step is to develop a phased implementation plan based on identified needs, available data, priorities, and budgetary limitations. This should be a three- to five-year plan that outlines everything from organization structure (if you plan to have your own GIS staff), to data needs and hardware/ software requirements. If the business case has not been established for implementing an enterprise GIS, we can also prepare a cost/benefit analysis that clearly describes the long-term benefits of migrating from paper- or CAD-based systems and/or develop proof -of -concept applications that showcase the benefits of GIS. In addition, we also have experience with preparing RFP's for later phases of GIS implementation, such as data conversion and software development.

Project and Technical Management

Our project managers have experience in each phase of GIS implementation and the degree of expertise and commitment ensures not only a quality database, but a high level of technical support beyond data conversion.

Automated Mapping/ Facilities Management:

One of the biggest challenges is how to construct a cost-effective AM/FM GIS to help the organization enhance services, reduce cost, and become more competitive.

JAKS is engaged in providing AM/FM/GIS /Remote Sensing consulting services for efficient use of desktop mapping to deal with specific business needs at a client organization through a directed, professional and cost-effective approach. Apart from the client's application assessment, JAKS also provides GIS project implementation services and end-user training for the required product and applications.

Data Conversion:

Many agencies have an abundant amount of data and information in the form of paper or mylar maps. These paper/mylar maps are prone to physical deterioration, are not very accessible, and are costly to store on site (in terms of space required). GIS Division of JAKS offers state-of-the-art applications to help you better operate and manage your organization, but paper maps need to be converted to an electronic form that can be made available to the organization to reap the cost benefits of GIS. Data can be delivered in formats suitable for direct use in GIS software, and/or in popular interchange formats for exchange with other entities.

GIS Application Development:

Often, off-the-shelf software applications are either overly complex or too generic to support an organization's specific needs efficiently. With a sound data foundation in place, several applications can be purchased, developed, and/or customized to help automate repetitive tasks, perform spatial analyses and modeling, or to assist with map production and improving the distribution of information to your customers (internal and external). These applications might be standalone GIS applications or they might be GIS applications (or maps) that are embedded into an existing application, and they can either be Windows-based or web-based applications.

Our domain experts, software architects, and technology strategists work together to design, develop, and implement custom applications that meet our clients' individual requirements. We blend new technologies and our expertise in water/waste water operations, with elements of our clients' existing environments and processes to optimize their investments. This approach allows our customers to take advantage of technological advancements, capture enhanced functionality, and deploy more reliable systems.

We implement and integrate applications related to Geographical Information Systems (GIS), database warehousing, and application development, among others. We have extensive experience in myriad technologies including .NET, Java/J2EE, Windows, UNIX, GIS, RDBMS, and Internet/Intranet.

We use a process-oriented, yet speedy application development methodology in all our development projects. We stay on top of the latest technologies to ensure we employ the right approach to our customer's problems.

Hardware and Software Recommendations/Solutions:

Our goal is to help our clients move through the GIS implementation process quickly and efficiently, implementing their own system during different stages of development while teaching them about the technology so they can become self-sufficient in the use of GIS.

JAKS can save your money when you configure or upgrade your GIS system. These special offers are available only through our already strong partners. We will help you plan the entire implementation process and provide GIS programming support, Implementation Services that will help to get your system up and running.

Project Management:

Technology projects worldwide are costing companies billions of dollars more than they budgeted for, and almost half don't live up to the clients' expectations. Newspapers and business dailies trumpet few project successes but a massive number of failures. As projects grow larger and more complex with every passing year, their outcomes – both successes and failures – become fodder for the media and our competition. Integration of the spatial database with project management functions provides a powerful and effective management control system.

The project model in our methodology is adopted from most of the fundamental concepts required to describe a building project.

The main approaches are 1) identification of entities, keys, and attributes from data sources associated with each system component, 2) establishment of entity relationships, and 3) justification of the functionality of these relationships, based on semantic description of the project management schema. The resulting information model is then analysed with a set of specialized types of engineering information, such as analysis models and algorithms, constraints, time-dependent processes, and other types of data that are somewhat unique to the engineering domain. The object-centered technique is exploited for project data definition and integration in the modeling.

We at JAKS appreciate the importance of our Client's Spatial Database Designs And Standards :

We recognize that good quality data provide a solid foundation upon which to build an enterprise GIS. To help ensure that data are complete and accurate, it is important to develop/adopt standards for digital mapping and metadata, develop a highly accurate base map upon which all spatial data will be registered, and invest some time to model your data. JAKS endeavors to ensure that spatial and tabular database design and development sets us apart in our ability to assist you with modeling your data, and our work with leaders in the GIS field ensures that standards we recommend follow industry standards.

AVAILABILITY OF DOMAIN EXPERTS FOR JAKS GIS ACTIVITIES

The selected consultant will conduct a thorough review of the Client's existing data and how it is updated within the organization. The consultant will understand how new data changes or is captured, flows through the organization, and is finally updated in the Database/ geodatabase. The consultant familiarizes themselves with the uses of the GIS data with the client and its associated agencies. The consultant observe and solicit information relevant to existing capabilities and functional operations to assist in determining optimal database designs. Additionally, the consultant will need to identify issues and concerns related to the cost effective implementation of appropriate technology in the present environment. The consultants would undertake the following:

  • Understanding System Functional Requirements and interface requirements
  • Assist the client in identifying the Simplest and most efficient design
  • Identify future expansion capabilities
  • Identify wherever appropriate Least data redundancy and data duplication
  • Assist in Optimizing editing and query performance
  • Identify all possible Validation and integrity rules
  • Understand if there are Specific data layers with 3-dimensional information
  • Identification of Optimized techniques for maintenance updates from internal workflows
  • Optimized for maintenance updates from external data sources
  • Ensure the Client's Compatibility with GIS Strategic Plan initiatives

Should the client require an entity relationship diagram (ERD) , this will be generated for the final approved data design. The ERD will provide an Oracle centric view of the database.

A data model diagram will be generated for the final approved design. The data model diagram will contain a structure view, a catalog view, and a detailed view.

The detailed view will include feature classes, attributes, attribute characteristics, domains, and relationships.
